The k-pop has been going through a storm of controversies recently, one of which has constantly snagged headlines for the last few weeks is the dating rumors between BTS’ Kim Taehyung a.k.a V, and BLACKPINK’s Kim Jennie.
While there have been speculations about them being in a relationship, what fuelled the rumor mills is their alleged couple photos, taken from their trips to various places. The k-pop industry, especially the fandoms, BTS’ ARMY, and BLACKPINK’s BLINKS, have been hugely invested in this story.

The Beginning
The rumors started when a photo of Jennie and V surfaced, together in a car. This sparked the controversy, followed by several more photos being surfaced. Ranging from them being together on a trip, to couple photos, a number of pictures came in which attested to the fact that they were dating.
The Verification
These photos surfaced already and put everyone in a frenzy, but what added to the rumor saga was the entry of the Photography experts. These experts revealed that the photos which were leaked were actually edited. The idols’ faces were actually morphed on another couple’s faces, making it look like the pictures are real.
This worked in two ways. While the rumors were proved to be false for the time being, as any official statement wasn’t released, this also brought in suspicions on who would want to invoke a scandal like this through these photo-shopped picture leaks.
The Speculations
The photos kept coming in, and the controversy kept on blowing up to large proportions. But what really made the news even worse was the acceptance, or rather a boasting-off session of the person who leaked these photos. Amidst all of these photos surfacing, these “leakers” added gasoline to the fire. It was just constant back and forth of photography experts denying the photos being real and the people behind the leaks saying that they are real. This chapter of the scandal was nothing but a messy confusion.
The Clarification
The k-pop world was neck deep in these rumors as the fans from both sides were demanding an explanation or at least a statement on behalf of either of the idols involved, whether it be denying or accepting that they are dating.
But after some time, the fans breathed a sigh of relief when HYBE LABELS, the company where V is an idol, released an official statement on 29th September, warning that it would take legal action against anyone who would violate their idol’s rights. Now, given the context and the timing of the statement released, it was pretty obvious what the statement meant. It was HYBE not only denying the rumors but also protecting his idol and warning the culprits of the consequences of their actions.
But the person who was leaking photos denied that the notice was directed at them, by giving his view in his Telegram group.
The Conclusion
The rumors have now been laid to rest as both the idols take a sigh of relief. One more funny yet supportive reaction came from V’s fellow member, Jin, as he wondered what the culprit must have done that they would be sent to the prosecutor’s office.
Through this episode, the fans got vital lesson to learn. Loving and caring for your idol, worrying about them is okay. Its natural to be protective about the people you love and care for deeply. But prying into their life, obsessing over them is all parts wrong. You are not only making your favorite idol uncomfortable but jeopardizing their privacy, which is a basic human right. They have their own life, they are humans too.
